The Spinning Heavens
Jul. 14th, 2015 11:16 pmWe met up in the west pasture right before sundown, I brought my telescope, we all brought snacks, pillows and blankets.
Together we watched the sun set over the fields and forest. Into the twilight rose Luna's moon, scattering constellations and stars as it carved a path through the sky. We ate strawberries and we watched for meteors. Some constellations dodged about the stars playing tag, and when a meteor did shoot by, scramble to catch it and toss it hither and yon across the night sky.
The true constellations, the ones that move, not the other stars that fill up the sky, are alive. They are the star beasts, born of grouped stars, probably stars attracted by a shared love. A love of family, a love of adventure, a love of lore... That link lives on, in giant twinkling beasts in the illusion that is Equestria's night sky.
Maybe one day I too will be one with a constellation. Or perhaps I will be a shooting star. For now, I gaze up, not down. I press closer to my friends.

Date: 2015-07-15 10:41 pm (UTC)Your comment about becoming a constellation reminds me of a story over here, called "Dragonheart."
In this story, a dragon shares a piece of his heart to save a dying young prince. As a result of this, both the prince and the dragon will feel the same pain, and both will die if one is killed. Unfortunately, the prince becomes an evil man once he is king, and a brave knight kills all of the other dragons.
Later, the knight and the dragon, after a long battle, become friends and decide to partner up in order to earn money/food in a con operation. The two of them are eventually roped into a rebellion against the evil king, culminating in the dragon sacrificing himself to end the evil king's life.
The part that you reminded me of is actually a minor bit: The dragon at one point tells the knight that if a dragon proves his or her worth, their soul will earn a place in the Draco constellation. And of course, at the end of the story, the dragon appears as a new star in the constellation.
Sorry about the length of the comment.
