Potluck Supper

We're having a potluck supper at Sweet Apple Acres tonight. Well, I expect Pinkie to have dessert covered, so I decided to go with a Canterlot dish -- Buckwheat and alfalfa sprout pancake rolls with hot and sour orange sauce. To make sure I didn't ruin the cooking, I read out the recipe and Spike did the cooking. He's an ace in the kitchen. He made me repeat that four times, the attention sponge. And I nixed the tourmaline sprinkles, except for his plate.

Time to trot! It's all cooked and packed and we're heading out the door. Potluck suppers are fun!

You're welcome! Are you going to try and cook that dish? You're omnivores with a very wide diet, you could probably digest most of it, as long as none of the ingredients are poisonous to you.

I may well — I'm not much of a cook, but it would be fun. Finding alfalfa sprouts might not be so easy, but perhaps I could substitute something a little more common for these (any suggestions on what might work?). Same for arrowroot; I think I've never seen or heard of a recipe using that before.

Well, I was thinking of replacing the alfalfa sprouts with pine nuts, but it was a toss up between 'crunchy texture' and 'crisp and watery'. I went with crisp and watery. You could try celery sticks, cut to resemble toothpicks, but I think it's winter on Earth too, so no celery.

Arrowroot (Sagittaria species) is a thickener. It grows in marshy areas along the river and in Froggy Bottom Bog. Maybe you could look up a stock or soup thickener? I have a big day tomorrow in Canterlot, I really need to double check my check list.
