News From the North

Moondancer appeared in my copy of Treatise on Ponies. She was very faint and she wasn't there long but she had good news! She found an ice cave carved out of a glacier saddled between twin peaks of a mountain range in the snowy north. It's much further north than Yakyakistan. She and Lemon Hearts were going in. She said something about a weird mist trickling out of the cave and then her projection faded out. I hope she finds something there, a clue to this pony legend, ancient pony artifacts... A book even! It shouldn't be long now. Her Haycartes combo spell has turned out to be pretty useful.

It might require some digging. Moondancer probably brought along a copy of Principles of Scientific Excavation and Archeological Inquiry. It's what I'd do.

Going to be honest, I'm actually kind of concerned for Moondancer and Lemon Hearts now.

I'M nearly halfway through. It looks like the tale should end here but there's quite a bit more to go. The barrel shaped winged creatures sound really neat! But I don't like the style of the prose. The descriptions of the settings are very vague. It's like the author is avoiding specifics and just relating how he was feeling at the time. Dread, dread, dread... OK, I get it already. And another thing, sharks don't have bones.

I'll read the rest later.

It's only been a few days. I bet Moondancer and Lemon Hearts are as happy as clams discovering things in that cave or beyond! It takes a lot of effort to combine the Haycartes spell with a teleport spell, especially from that far away. Moondancer is probably too tired to try right now.

The sharks having bones thing can probably be attributed to the science of the time it was written in. It was written almost 80 years ago, after all. Sharks do have cartilage skeletons though, don't they? As for the style, it was serialized in a pulp fiction magazine which probably paid Lovecraft by the word.

The author himself didn't even think it was his best work, but it's probably his (second) most famous one. If you're interested a much shorter, and probably far better, story he wrote, I could give you a link to that later.

I wonder what Moondancer and Lemon Hearts will find. Will it be hidden treasure? Ancient books? There's so many possibilities...

If Moondancer and Lemon Hearts find something ground breaking, they might want to keep it quiet until they have it published in the appropriate journal. That takes quite a while. I still expect to hear from her soon.
