Hi, my name is Twilight Sparkle, and... This is so neat! A journal in an alternate universe! What fun! All I had to figure out was how to get "e-mail address" (e for Earth?) and find an Earth journal that works well with my magic. This Dream Width looks good and oh! Comments and replies! Maybe I can make some friends here! For science!

Dream Width. Is there an Earth version of Princess Luna running this? Somehow many of you speak Pony, at least in written form.

Selecting "Post Entry", now.

Good morning, Your Highness! How very nice to see you keeping a journal here — allow me to extend a warm welcome to you. I hope you'll have as much fun writing on Dreamwidth as your audience will have keeping up with your journal.

It is indeed! Although Hearth's Warming isn't well-known here, it has in fact been celebrated in the last few years (and we also have our own holidays as well, of course).

If you'll forgive my curiosity, Your Highness, how much do you know about our universe? I imagine there must be some books somewhere, buried deep in the forgotten vaults of the Canterlonian libraries — and I imagine you'd be just the pony to dig them up!

Oh, and also, would you mind if I called you Twilight? "Your Highness" sounds a bit formal.

Twilight it'll be, then!

No, singing carols around Hearth's Warming (well... the local equivalent) isn't really a thing where I live, though people in other nations do it.

Yes, I like ponies. The icon is essentially just a ponified version of my usual persona; I'm obviously not a pony myself. But I suppose you could say I'm a fan.

You let everything just fend for itself, willy nilly.

Pretty bizarre when you think about it, isn't it? It's a bit like the Everfree Forest, but without Poison Joke and Timber Wolves and other such critters.

Pretty much that, yes. Originally it was a celebration of the longest night – or, more specifically, the fact that nights would be shorter again from then on, but don't let Luna hear that –; the current incarnation of the holiday dates back to an older culture that had a winter festival called "Saturnalia", though it's not recognizable in the modern version anymore. Later cultures added their own twists, came up with their own myths regarding the holiday's meaning, and so on, and the result is a veritable mishmash that really just boils down to "it's an excuse to get together and be merry".

Indeed! It was a multi-day festival, named one of said culture's deities – which, incidentally, is who the planet Saturn is named after as well in our universe as well.
