The castle is like Canterlot's castle in that it draws heat from deep underground to maintain the same, slightly sub-optimal, temperature all year round. There are fireplaces, such as the hearth in the sitting room, but they aren't configured to heat the room. They're mostly there to be pretty and to heat one side of you if you're close enough.
